How does a salt water hot tub work?
The Spa Boy® system turns a measured amount of salt into sanitizer and once it has done its job of sanitizing it is converted back into salt—ready to work again. This means that once you have added the specified salt to the system no other salt needs to be added for months. By automating the process of adding sanitizer to the spa water the Spa Boy® eliminates the peaks and troughs in water quality. By stabilizing water quality you can count on the water being inviting and ready to use.

More than a salt cell: a feedback loop
A conventional salt system may generate sanitizer on a programmed schedule. Spa Boy® uses a pH and ORP sensor to analyze the water. ORP—oxidation-reduction potential—is a measurement that helps indicate sanitizing activity.
Spa Boy® uses those readings to help control sanitizer generation, data-logs water conditions, displays information through connected Arctic Spas controls, and alerts the owner when pH needs attention.

Does a salt water hot tub still need maintenance?
Yes. Salt water care is easier for many owners, but it is not maintenance-free.
Spa Boy® helps automate sanitizer management under typical use and tells you more about the water. It does not replace the owner’s responsibility to maintain safe, balanced conditions.

Are salt water hot tubs corrosive?

The useful question is not simply, “Can salt corrode metal?” It can. The better question is, “How is the complete spa designed and maintained?”

Does Spa Boy® balance everything automatically?
No. Spa Boy® helps automatically manage sanitizer production and monitors pH, but owners remain responsible for safe, balanced water. pH adjustments, filters, salt level, cell care, and occasional supplemental treatment may still be required. Available Smart pH configurations may automate more of the pH process.
How often do I add salt?
